Happy Mother’s Day

Well it wasn’t what I’d consider a “traditional” Mother’s Day, but as I sit here writing this, I’m reminded I don’t have a “traditional” family. Despite that, this Mother’s Day I’m reminded that the “non traditional” way we spend holidays like this, construct our story and make up the memories we will inevitably look back on and remember later down the road.
One of my favorite things to capture is a mother and her child and/or children. There is nothing like capturing that connection. I often hear from women that want to book photo shoots for their children, but they don’t want to be in the pictures. Sometimes it’s because they don’t feel “photo ready” or they say they have ten pounds to lose before they’ll consider being photographed. And I will say this…..your children don’t care about your weight and they think you’re beautiful now. One of the greatest gifts you can give them is a photograph that captures your relationship now. As an adult, they will be so grateful to have photos of the way they remember you when they were children. I was so happy to recently photograph some beautiful mommies and their daughters. After both sessions, these moms both commented how glad they were to have something they can remember this time in their mother/daughter relationship.
I hope that no matter how you spent this Mother’s Day, it was memorable!Mothers_Day_photo_blog
